Mice
usually move at night, and they move the most in summer.
Mice stop moving at midnight, but they will start to
stir at dawn. However, the mice also will appear in
the daytime when they are hungry or their nets are too
crowed.
Mice will move the food
to a hidden place to eat it when the food is too much
or can,t be finished quickly at the exposed area. Although
most of mice store much food, they will probably not
to eat the food. In general, rodents are omnirorus,
they eat dumped food, stored food and even the growing
grains. In urban cities, Rattus norvegicus Erxleben
act as the scavengers, they eat the dumped food by human
being or the abandoned food.
In fact, the favorite
foods of Rattus norvegicus Erxleben are cereals, fishes
and meats, boiled eggs, fruits and so on, however the
garbage food offers them very balanced food and supplies
them enough water at the same time. On the other hand,
Rottus rattu L. are not picky to their food, but they
prefer cereals, seeds and fruits. Mice grin their teeth
not only to consume or pollute the food but also to
bite and destroy the packing materials or the equipments
of building. According to the statistics, 1/4 of unknown
fires in USA probably were caused by mice's biting the
electric wires and that made the electricity a short
circuit. In addition, electric cables of the computer
rooms also suffer the problem now.
Mice's sense of smell
is extremely keen, they can identify their ally or opposite
sex by smell their urine or the secretion of reproduction
period. Besides, the sense of touch is also a very important
feeling to mice, because mice have very sensitive whiskers
and protective body hairs, so it make the mice can pass
the dark places easily. This kind of movement by touching
objects is called thigmotaxis, this characteristic gives
us a clue to put the mice catcher or apply the rodenticide
at the right place. Mice's sense of hearing is also
very keen, especially they are extremely sensitive to
the precipitated sound. Nowadays the research shown
that mice have the bimodal acoustic response, except
having the hearing range of human beings, the mice also
are sensitive to the supersonic. At the sense of sight,
mice are not good at identifying objects, and usually
mice are all colorblind. For the outside objects, mice
only can identify the weak or strong light and merely
judge the moveable objects within 10m. For safety, usually
the rodenticide baits are colored to prevent hurting
human beings or livestock from poisoning. |
